OUR HISTORY
SARAH SENECA Residential Services, Inc.
evolved from the Shoreline Association of Retarded and
Handicapped Citizens (Sarah). Sarah was established in 1957 by
a small group of families with children who had developmental
disabilities. At that time the only option available to individuals
with disabilities was confinement to one of Connecticut’s
institutions.
These families wanted their sons and daughters to remain active
members of their communities. Together they started a revolutionary
process that soon culminated in the creation of supported homes,
a school, and a number of small business opportunities which employed
the skills that these individuals could provide to the community.
In 1990 the Sarah split itself into four self-sustaining agencies.
These four Sarah agencies now include:
